If you need euros in Greater Vancouver, you can buy them as cash at a walk-in exchange like FonderX in New Westminster and leave with notes in hand, no waiting for a delivery. If you just got back from Europe with leftover euros, you can sell them back to us for Canadian dollars the same way.
Below is how our euro rates work, what a few common amounts cost at today's numbers, and what to bring so your visit is quick.
What the euro is and who needs it
The euro (code EUR, symbol €) is the shared currency of most European Union countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands and Ireland. One currency covers a lot of ground, so a single exchange can carry you across several countries on the same trip.
The people we see buying euros are usually:
- Travellers heading to Europe who want cash for the first few days: a taxi, a cafe, a market stall.
- Students and workers leaving for a term or contract in Europe.
- Families visiting relatives who prefer to arrive with some local cash.
The people selling euros are mostly travellers who came home with notes left over, or visitors from Europe who need Canadian dollars while they are here.
How our We Buy and We Sell rates work for euros
Our rate board shows two numbers for every currency, both in Canadian dollars per one unit:
- We Sell is what you pay us when you buy euros.
- We Buy is what we pay you when you sell euros to us.
The gap between the two is how an exchange covers its costs. Here are our euro rates as of Wednesday October 21, 2026 at 9:29 AM Pacific. Rates change through the day, so check today's rates before you come in.
| You want to... | Rate (CAD per 1 EUR) | Example | You pay / receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy euros | 1.6300 (We Sell) | 200 EUR | You pay 326.00 CAD |
| Buy euros | 1.6300 (We Sell) | 500 EUR | You pay 815.00 CAD |
| Buy euros | 1.6300 (We Sell) | 1,000 EUR | You pay 1,630.00 CAD |
| Sell euros | 1.5600 (We Buy) | 50 EUR | You receive 78.00 CAD |
| Sell euros | 1.5600 (We Buy) | 100 EUR | You receive 156.00 CAD |
| Sell euros | 1.5600 (We Buy) | 300 EUR | You receive 468.00 CAD |
To work out your own amount, multiply the number of euros by the rate. Buying 750 euros at 1.6300, for example, comes to 1,222.50 CAD. Ask us to confirm the rate at the counter before you exchange, since the board can move during the day.
If you work as a paramedic, firefighter, police officer, 911 dispatcher, nurse, ER doctor or teacher, ask about our Frontline Heroes Rate and bring your work ID.
Buying euros before a trip
A few practical tips from the counter:
- Ask for a mix of notes. Euro banknotes in everyday use are €5, €10, €20, €50, €100 and €200. Smaller notes are easier to spend at cafes, bakeries and transit machines, so tell us if you want mostly €20s and €50s.
- Buy before you fly. Buying ahead lets you see the posted rate and plan your budget at home instead of rushing on travel day.
- Split your cash. Keep some euros in your wallet and the rest in a separate, secure place while you travel.
- Count it at the counter. Take a moment to count your notes before you leave.
Selling leftover euros
Euro notes do not expire when you land back in Canada, but cash sitting in a drawer is not doing much for you. If you are not planning another trip soon, selling them back turns them into Canadian dollars you can use now.
Bring the notes flat and in good condition. Badly torn or damaged notes can be harder to exchange, so if you are unsure about a note, call us before you make the trip. If you have euro coins, call ahead to check before bringing them in.
If you travel to Europe often, some people simply keep a small euro float at home for the next trip. Either choice is fine; it depends on your plans.
What to bring and calling ahead for larger amounts
Every exchange at FonderX needs two things:
- Cash. We are cash only: no debit, credit cards, e-transfers or cheques. Bring Canadian dollars to buy euros, or your euro notes to sell.
- Valid government photo ID, such as a driver's licence or passport. As a FINTRAC-registered money services business (MSB registration N300001076), we ID every customer.
For larger amounts, please call (778) 759-0400 before you come in. A quick call lets us confirm we have the amount and the note sizes you want ready for you, and it saves you a second trip. You can find our phone number and hours on the contact and hours page.
FonderX exchanges cash in person only. We do not send money transfers, wires or remittances.
