Yes, you can buy Bitcoin with cash in person in Greater Vancouver. At FonderX in New Westminster you bring Canadian cash and valid government photo ID, give us your own wallet address, and we send the Bitcoin to that wallet while you are at the counter.
The safe part comes down to three habits: use a wallet that only you control, check the address before anything is sent, and never buy Bitcoin because someone else told you to pay them with it.
Why buy Bitcoin with cash in person
Some people prefer to pay for Bitcoin the same way they pay for travel money: with cash, face to face, with a receipt. You can see who you are dealing with, ask questions in plain language, and leave knowing exactly what you paid.
Buying in person at a registered business also means your purchase goes through a company that follows Canadian rules. FonderX Currency Exchange Inc. is a FINTRAC-registered money services business (MSB registration N300001076), which is why we ask for ID on every crypto purchase.
Today's Bitcoin rate at FonderX
These are our live board rates as of Friday October 16, 2026 at 9:37 AM Pacific. Bitcoin prices move constantly, so our rates change through the day. Always check today's rates or our crypto prices page before you head out.
| What you do | FonderX rate (CAD per 1 BTC) |
|---|---|
| You buy Bitcoin (We Sell) | $117,812.32 |
| You sell Bitcoin (We Buy) | $113,192.23 |
You do not need to buy a whole Bitcoin. At the We Sell rate above, the maths works out like this:
- $200 cash buys about 0.0016976 BTC
- $500 cash buys about 0.0042440 BTC
- $1,000 cash buys about 0.0084881 BTC
These examples use the rate at the time shown. The rate when you are at the counter is the one that counts, and we will confirm the exact amount before anything is sent.
Step by step: buying Bitcoin with cash safely
Before you leave home
- Install a reputable Bitcoin wallet app on your phone, or set up a hardware wallet if you plan to hold a larger amount.
- Write down the recovery phrase on paper and store it somewhere safe. Never photograph it, type it into a website, or share it with anyone, including us.
- Open the wallet and find your "receive" address or QR code so it is ready to show.
- Count your cash and bring valid government photo ID.
At the counter
- Tell us how much you want to spend in Canadian dollars, or how much Bitcoin you want.
- We confirm the rate and the amount of Bitcoin you will receive.
- Show your wallet's receive QR code. Before we confirm, compare the first and last few characters of the address on our screen with the one in your app.
- Once the transaction is sent, keep your receipt. Your wallet will usually show the incoming payment within minutes, and it becomes final once the network confirms it.
Afterwards
- Make sure the amount in your wallet matches your receipt.
- Keep your wallet app updated and your phone locked with a PIN or biometrics.
Red flags and safety tips
Bitcoin transactions cannot be reversed once they are confirmed. That makes it a favourite payment method for scammers. Please stop and talk to someone you trust if any of these sound familiar:
- Someone on the phone says you owe taxes, fines or bail and must pay in Bitcoin.
- A caller says they are from your bank, the police or the government and asks you to move your money into Bitcoin "to keep it safe".
- A new online friend or romantic partner asks you to buy Bitcoin and send it to them.
- Someone gives you a wallet address or QR code to use instead of your own.
- You are told to stay on the phone while you buy, or not to tell the staff why you are buying.
Real government agencies and banks do not ask to be paid in Bitcoin. If our staff notice any of these signs, we will ask questions. That is not to be difficult; it is to protect your money.
A few more habits that keep you safe:
- Only buy from a registered business with a real address and posted hours.
- Never meet a stranger from an online marketplace to swap cash for crypto. You cannot easily verify what you receive, and you are carrying cash to someone you do not know.
- Avoid flashing large amounts of cash on the way in. Count it at home and keep it out of sight.
- Ask for a receipt and keep it with your records.
- If you do not understand a step, ask. A good counter will slow down and explain.
